"The chances of long-term recovery greatly improve when we treat the underlying neurobiology of addiction first."David Smith, MD, FASAM (Past President, American Society of Addiction Medicine; Executive Medical Director, PROMETA Centers)

Addiction Is a Brain Disease

Addiction is a chronic, relapsing disease that requires medical attention. The chronic abuse of alcohol, cocaine, crack, opiates, or methamphetamines cause biochemical changes in the brain. These changes in brain chemistry play a significant role in the physical symptoms of substance dependence, including cravings (the intense hunger for drugs/alcohol that can persist for months or years after last use) and withdrawal (uncomfortable physical symptoms when you stop using).

Our Philosophy of Treatment

Our treatment philosophy is unique. Each day, our clinical team combines science with compassion to address a wide spectrum of patient needs. We understand that substance dependence is a complex disease, with a variety of components — neurological, genetic, environmental, social, and cultural. That's why the physicians at Murray Hill Recovery design treatment programs that target not only the biochemical effects of substance abuse, but the psychosocial and nutritional aspects as well.

Murray Hill Recovery offers physician-supervised treatments, in addition to ongoing counseling and psychological support.  The PROMETA® Treatment Program— which only we and other select physician practices are licensed to offer — is a proprietary treatment for alcohol, cocaine, and methamphetamine addiction — that combines pharmacological, psychosocial and nutritional interventions to promote sustained abstinence from alcohol and stimulants. The PROMETA® Treatment Program is supervised by physicians and is available on an outpatient basis. It is designed to integrate seamlessly with traditional behavioral therapies, to ensure continuity of care and ensure the best possible long-term outcomes for  patients.
