At Murray Hill Recovery, we believe that alcohol dependence is a disease, and that an integrated approach combining pharmacological and psychosocial treatments offers patients the best chance for a sustained recovery. Physicians practicing at Murray Hill Recovery use a variety of treatment methods for alcohol dependence. Our experienced staff will assist each patient with a tailored Continuing Care program.

Why consider the PROMETA Treatment Program?
Medical research has shown that addiction is a disease associated with biochemical changes in the brain. These changes in brain chemistry play a significant role in the physical symptoms of substance dependence, including cravings and withdrawal.

What is the PROMETA Treatment Program?
The PROMETA® Treatment Program is an integrated, physician-based treatment program that is designed to help relieve cravings and improve cognitive function, restore nutritional balance and initiate psychosocial counseling.

The program is generally performed in an outpatient setting and typically requires just 3 visits* for the initial treatment, followed by one month of prescription medications and ongoing professional counseling.

The PROMETA Treatment Programs include:

  1. The initial treatment involves prescription medication and nutritional supplements administered in a physician-supervised setting.
  2. The patient then receives one month of prescription medications and nutritional supplements.
  3. Professional counseling following the initial treatment typically includes individual and/or group therapy.

An essential part of the PROMETA Treatment Program involves a comprehensive Continuing Care plan. Our clinical team will work with you to find the plan that is best for you

*Treatment for cocaine or methamphetamine dependence includes a second physician-supervised treatment of 2 visits on consecutive days, about 3 weeks after the initial treatment.

Other Pharmacological Treatments for Alcohol Dependence
In addition to the PROMETA® Treatment Program, physicians practicing at Murray Hill Recovery offer treatments utilizing medications such as VIVITROL®.

VIVITROL® For Alcohol

In addition to the PROMETA® Treatment Program, physicians practicing at Murray Hill Recovery offer VIVITROL®.

VIVITROL® For Alcohol
Murray Hill Recovery is a Regional Referral Center for VIVITROL. VIVITROL is indicated for the treatment of alcohol dependence in patients who are able to abstain from alcohol in an outpatient setting prior to treatment initiation. Patients should not be actively drinking at the time of initial VIVITROL administration.

VIVITROL is given as a shot (injection) once a month by the treating healthcare professional. Only a healthcare professional can make an assessment of your condition to determine whether VIVITROL is right for you.

VIVITROL is a long-acting form of Naltrexone and has been shown to be generally well tolerated and effective for the treatment of alcohol dependence as part of a comprehensive treatment program.
